Vacancy Details:    1.0  (permanent position with an end date of June 26, 2025)

The Southern Region Indigenous Student Advisor (ISA) will assist with leading and implementing programs, services and other supports to meet the unique needs of First Nation, Metis and Inuit students, and their families, with a focus on successful student learning from Kindergarten to grade 12. The Indigenous Student Advisor will report directly to the Indigenous Lead Administrator for District School Board Ontario North East.

 Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Will work directly with staff and will understand the needs of students at New Liskeard Public School, Temagami Public School, Kerns Public School and Elk Lake Public School
  • Will monitor attendance, engagement, and achievement of students
  • Will create and enhance a welcoming, supportive space for students in various schools with various school staff
  • Will build close supportive relationships with students, families, Nations and First Nations
  • Will act as an advocate for students who identify as indigenous
  • Will facilitate strong communication between the schools, families, and First Nation communities
  • Will assist with developing and/or enhancing cultural activities in the schools
  • Will build and maintain community partnerships with agencies supporting cultural awareness within our schools (ie., Keepers of the Circle, Mino Mshki-ki, Community Elders and Knowledge Keepers)

 Qualifications:    

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma and/or experience
  • Post-secondary education is an asset (e.g., Educational Assistant, Social Work)
  • Valid drivers license is required
  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge of cultural teachings and best practices is required

 Salary as per the current OSSTF - PSSP Collective Agreement Collective Agreements (dsb1.ca)
