JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of General Machinist

Reporting to the Trades Management Supervisor-Maintenance, this position is responsible for production-machining operations to specifications on a variety of materials. Assignments are typically of a critical, non-routine nature. Work is completed under the limited direction and/or guidance of the machine shop supervisor.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, drills, and milling machines.
  • Determine and prepare and jigs or special attachments needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or drawings necessary to complete assignments. Prepare own layouts.
  • Use micrometers, vernier calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure in-process or that finished product matches specified tolerances.
  • Perform maintenance and cleanup of work area.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 or equivalent and successful completion of an 8000hr apprenticeship in General Machining
  • Possess a General Machinist Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal Machinists)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a General Machinist
  • Have the ability to set up and use jigs, fixtures (collets), arbors, mandrels, centers, clamps.
  • Fluent with creating programs on Fanuc control on both CNC Milling Machines and Lathes
  • Work to tolerances within .001 inch.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprint drawings

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package.
