The Literacy Council of South Temiskaming is a Literacy and Basic Skills program located in Temiskaming Shores. Since 1990, the Literacy Council of South Temiskaming has been providing essential skill training to adults in the area.
Literacy and Basic skills Instructor - 25 hours
Are you eager to make a positive impact on adults faced with barriers to learning and employment? We are looking for someone who has a range of experience teaching essential skills, English, math, and digital literacy with a focus on workplace literacy and employability skills. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective training programs to our adult learners.
Another important aspect of this job is maintaining a connection with the needs of the community. This includes working with and promoting our services to other local service provider.
Position Summary
Instructors are responsible for lesson planning, materials preparation and classroom delivery of programs. To ensure programs reflect participant needs and goals, instructors are required to deliver contextual programming. Instructors may also facilitate groups. Instructors are expected to keep up with the changes in the field of adult education, to integrate new programming initiatives into their lesson planning, and together with their colleagues, to maintain through development and innovation programming that achieves the highest standards in adult education practice.
Qualifications
-A post-secondary education in a related area and knowledge of adult learning theory are assets
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong human relations skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of learner populations
-Excellent math skills

-An understanding of the student-centered approach to teaching and learning
-A respect for confidentiality
-Advanced computer skills and experience with online learning using Moodle, Google Rooms, Zoom and MS Teams.
