Summer Student Employment Opportunity

PSW/Resource Teacher
1 position for Temiskaming Shores
$17.60/hour – 35 Hours per week

Tasks and Responsibilities
The Resource Teacher/PSW plays a key role in supporting the inclusion, safety, and well-being of children with additional needs. This position works directly in classrooms to provide individualized support, implement strategies recommended by specialists, and collaborate with  educators to create an inclusive environment aligned with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).

Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one or small-group support to children with developmental, behavioural, physical, or medical needs.
• Assist in implementing Individual Support Plans (ISPs), behaviour plans, and medical care plans.
• Support children with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, mobility, and hygiene, following dignity-based care practices.
• Collaborate with RECEs, supervisors, families, and external professionals (e.g., Resource Consultants, therapists).
• Observe, document, and report on children’s progress, behaviours, and needs.
• Promote inclusion by adapting activities, materials, and routines to support participation.
• Maintain a safe, nurturing, and culturally respectful environment.
• Follow all CCEYA regulations, centre policies, health and safety protocols, and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications
• Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate or Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) or equivalent experience supporting children with special needs.
• Experience working in childcare, early learning, or community support settings.
• Knowledge of child development, inclusive practices, and behaviour-support strategies.
• Ability to support children with personal care needs in a respectful, professional manner.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
• Up-to-date immunizations as required by CCEYA.
• Standard First Aid & CPR-C.

Assets (Not Required)
• Experience working with Indigenous children, families, or communities.
• Training in ABA, mental health, trauma-informed care, or sensory-based strategies.• Experience collaborating with Resource Consultants or early intervention teams.
